Question
Hi, my name is shannon and i am a rodent lover. I have one little dwarf rabbit. he's black with a white dot on his nose. Anyway, this has just started tonight ( 7:10 ) he keeps on shaking his head. does this mean he has mites or is he too lazy to scratch/wash. he's done this about 5 times so far. Can you please help me?.

Thanx

Answer
Hi Shannon

Anytime a bunny shakes its head frequently it is either a neurological problem or possibly ear mites.

I would strongly suggest that you take him to an exotic animal vet for an exam.  Sadly mites and neurological problems can lead to wry-neck which is extremely difficult to treat.  It is better to get him examined just in case.

If you don't already have a vet you can check out this site:

Just remember that it can be quite a drive.  If you don't see anyone in your location then I would suggest a 24 hour animal hospital.  They usually have exotic trained vets on staff.

I hope that your little bunny is ok.  Oh and by the way rabbits are Lagomorphs not rodents.  Very similar but just wanted to clarify that for you.

Good luck to you an Mr. Bun
