Question
i have 7 baby new zealand x lop ear.they are just over 5 weeks old drinking lots of water and eating veg, pellets and hay they are still in the cage with mum.can they be given away at 6 weeks? everywhere i've looked says 6-8 weeks these bunnies are large and very active no known problems.i have people wanting them and i have made them wait so good homes are assured.my cage is getting too small to house the 7 babies and 2 mums not to mention the food bill.these rabbits were given to me when they were both pregnate.i will only be keeping the mums.

Answer
Hi Roz....It is generally considered that domestic rabbits are not fully weaned until 8 weeks old.  Here in the US, it is illegal in many states to offer domestic rabbits under 8 weeks old.  Their gut is very fragile and needs approx 8 weeks to become somewhat stable to survive travel to a new home.  Now I have heard of some rabbits going out at 5-6 weeks but I would prefer 8 weeks if possible.
