bunny sneezing, but seems fine otherwise--does he need a vet?

22 9:58:09

Question
Our bunny has been sneezing and making odd sounds like he is trying to get something out of his nose. He does not have a runny nose that we can see or anything in there that is visible to us. He seems fine otherwise--eating well, pooping fine, cuddly and playful, but the sound concerns me.
Does he need to be taken to a vet? I don't want to stress him with a trip there if he doesn't need it.
Also, we have been using white paper towels for his cage floor. Could lint from those be bothering him? Would newspaper be better?
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Dear Joanne,

Chronic sneezing is never a good thing, even if the discharge is clear.  It would be a good idea to have him checked over by an experienced rabbit vet:

who can tell you whether this is something that should be treated before it gets worse.  Please read:

White paper towels are probably harmless, but not very comfortable.  We've invested in a supply of 100% cotton bath mats (fully washable, so we buy enough to change out when the dirty ones are being laundered), which make nice, soft bedding that will not harm the bunny if he chews on them.  You can get them really cheap at places like Marshall's or Target...in any color to match your decor.  :)

I hope this helps.
