rabbits birth babies

my bunny just had a litter of 6 babies. i didnt know she was pregnant. she ate 1 and bit the ears off 2. what can i do to help them survive. i gave her a box with paper shreadings

Hi Holly. I am so sorry not to have gotten back to you sooner. I hope the rest of your litter is doing well. If your doe is a first time mother that could explain why she ate on the babies. Sometimes first time moms get a bit confused. I would try to get some straw or hay for the nest as the paper will get wet and will then be cold. You might try a little bit of very fine wood shavings if you can't get hay or straw. Let me know how they are doing.  Pat
