flaky skin

I have had my rabbit for nearly three years now and he has not had any medical problems but recently i have noticed that he has a very flaky back. it is white and thick and there is quite a lot of it. it doesn't seem to be bothering him that much but i hav looked up these symptoms on the internet and it says that it could be mites. please help. laura.

Hi Laura. It does sound like mites to me. I suggest that you take your bunny to the vet for a skin scraping to be sure. You can buy Ivermectin at the farm supply store and treat it yourself, but a bottle is about $40.00.So you won't save any money by doing that for one rabbit. Let me know what you find out.  Pat
