Question
QUESTION: I spoke to a woman in CA who mentioned your name, then I found this link, I have a 7 day old piglet, we've lost mom & 5 babies, we've had her in the bathroom with a heater (90 degrees), we're feeding (bottle) her a replacement milk (MannaPro NurseAll) every 2 1/2 hrs (1 ounce), she eats well, we think she maybe constipated, we were told to massage anus (did that), is there anything else we should do or know or give her, I just want her to live.  She's very active & lets us hold her, we love her, please if you could answer any of this I would appreciate it.  Thanks

ANSWER:  The natural milk tht pigs get from their mothers is very high in protein and fat. This is GOOD because the babies were born with little reserves.
So, we suggest to do 2 things.
1. Pigs are not bottle fed because they tend to aspirate the milk into their lungs and get pneumonia. They are traditionally pan fed like you would an orphan kitten.

2. Buy goats milk and feed that because it is high in fat, calories, protein, and very digestable.
This should make her pooh "properly".
But introduce her to goat's milk GRADUALLY.
It can be bought canned or fresh at most supermarkets.

However, I would not worry too much at this stage. It is good that her stools are not watery.
Good luck,
Priscilla

QUESTION: I started with goats milk, but the NurseAll is a higher percentage in fat & protein (24% of each) it states how much to feed, how often & we modify it because she's potbellied.  I guess my question is how long can she go without pooping?  Days, after every meal, any sort of info is appreciated.
Thanks

Answer
Goat's milk is more digestable. It is called the "universal donar".
I think your piglet will be fine, but can only guess.
Our first piglet Wilbur went 9 days without pooping!
If it was an older pig I would be more worried.
But babies get a bit  constipated.
Better that than the other way around.
Also, I don't know why the other 5 died. And the Mother?
That is sad.
