Question
I have been doing a ton of research about differnt pigs.I would love to get one when I done with my tour in afganistan. what is you take on a pure julianna pigs? like size and personality? do you know a good farm that sells juliannas?any thing Ishould know about them

Answer
To the best of my knowledge there is only one mini pig registry active in the US and they do not track Juliana pigs separately from "ordinary" pot-bellied pigs. In fact only one registry, Gold Star, tracked Juliana pigs separately, and they closed their doors in the 90s. So unless the breeder can produce records dating back to Gold Star and the 90s, it's unlikely they are selling true Juliani pigs.

Pigs, including Julianis, grow until they are 5 years old or so. A 1 or 2 year old pig can have baby pigs, but is not yet full grown and will get bigger. So seeing a 1 year old parent pig means only that the babies might be that size at age 1 year. To see how big the babies might be at age 5 or 6, you'll need to see the parents at age 5 or 6.

I suggest contacting the rescue or sanctuary closest to you when you return to the US. You'll be able to see pigs of all sizes, shapes, and colors. They often take in pregnant pigs, and will not mislead you as to the ultimate size of the pig or the care they require. They will be willing to help you as a pig owner in any way they can. There's a list of rescues and sanctuaries at www.farec.org
