Question
i am looking to buy a pot belly piglet. the breeder that i have spoken with has about 30 piglets. i told her that i was raising the pig in my house and she said that i need to get a 4 week old because they are easier to train. is this too young of a piglet. also about how bid do pot bellies get

Answer
Hello,
Breeders should never let a piglet go to their new homes that young.
The piglet needs to stay with it's mother and other siblings until at least 6 weeks of age and then be weaned and eating piglet chow for at least two weeks to ensure that they are ready for their new homes.
I see this more and more....breeders are sending piglets off way too young and then I get phone calls and e-mail for help as the piglet is having problems eating, and numerous other problems.
Actually this breeder in not knowledgeable and is inexperienced or they would not be willing to risk the piglets health!
Another reason breeders let piglets go too young is that they piglets are going to be much larger if they keep them for the full weeks before. They want you to believe that they are going to be much smaller that they actually are.
Please reconsider where you get get your piglet from.
A responsible breeder will not let a piglet go until it is at least 8 weeks of age, been neutered or spayed and well handled before you receive it.
Please, please, please do not accept a piglet from any breeder who does not follow this practice!
Good luck,
Patty
