Question
Hi Helen, I just recently bought my daughter a mini pot belly pig. the pot belly pig is 13 weeks old and is named princess. But I've noticed that she hasn't pooped in at least 5 days. She also hasn't been wanting to eat anything and been EXTREMELY shaky? I read in one of the questions someone asked is basically the same as our situation. As you said that it might be from the road or grass? Our road just recently got constructed and princess likes to chew on rocks. I was wondering what can I do if she may have poisoning? Also we've stopped taking her outside because we realized that she was getting an enormous rash all along her arms, legs, and stomach. We don't know what to do. Can you please help us out? PLEASE!!! shes our 1st major pet and my daughter loves her already since shes allergic to cats and dogs. Please help us Helen.
Thank you for your time!

Answer
I am not a veterinarian and can not make a medial diagnosis over the internet.

I can say that your piglet is exhibiting symptoms that are usually signs of a serious problem, and your piglet should see a vet at once. There's a list of pot-bellied pig vets here  www.farec.org

Healthy piglets should gain about 1 lb per week. The general rule of thumb is 1/2 c pot-bellied pig food per 15 lb of piglet, divided into two meals, no less than 1/2 c per day. To tempt a reluctant piglet to eat, try soaking the pellets in milk until they are mushy. Add some canned pumpkin to the mix to relieve constipation.

Any soothing ointment will relieve itchiness from the rash, but might not be able to heal it. A vet will be able to tell if the rash is a reaction to something in the environment, or a symptom of illness and know the proper way to treat it.
