Question
this will be our second pot belly pig. we have a neurtered 2 yr old who came to us at 9 wks after he got neurtered, and we just got an 8 wk old piglet 3 days ago. the vet has told us not to begin introducing them until the piglet gets neurtered and about 1 month after that, which will happen 8/13/12 by a vet who only deals in exotics, including PBP's. we will be working with the vet on the proper introduction of them to decrease the chance of an all out major fight. he will also get his first set of shots at that time. right now we are working on getting him used to his leash and being handled. he has had very little human contact until I got him. he dosnt take treats from me yet, but I have gotten him to the point that if I have him on his leash, I can get a hold of him with the least amount of stress on him. now for my questions.....
I want to work on getting him socialized with people but since he is intact, (he even tries to mate with my 3# service poodle), and not had his vaccines yet, I am not sure if I should socialize him now or waite until he gets his vaccines and neurtered. he is not mean yet from being intact and the neighbors I would socialize him with have never even been around another pig except for my other pig.
my other problem, how often can I wash the piglets belly to help reduce the stink that he is producing from not being neurtered? thank you ahead of time for your help.

Answer
Hello,
The sooner you can neuter him the better.  The longer you wait the more the breeding tendency will last.  I usually neuter as soon as the testicles drop.
I doubt if there is much of a fight between the two males as the older one is neutered and should know the difference between an adult male and a piglet.
You can go ahead and socialize him....the sooner the better.  Just because a male piglet is not neutered doesn't mean he will be aggressive.  I have adult intact males that are very sweet.   I have never had one be aggressive with humans.
I give vaccinations at 4 and 8 weeks of age.  So if I were you I would move ahead on everything as soon as possible.
You can use Wetones to wipe his belly as often as you need to.
Hope this helps,
Patty
