Question
Hi, I am buying a baby boy pot bellied pig.  My question is he is the largest of the litter. Will he always be the largest are do u think that he will still stat small are become large?

Answer
It's difficult to predict how big a pig will be. Pigs grow quickly until age 2, then slowly until age 4 or 5. Piglets under 1 year old should gain about 1 lb per week.

The best way to guess how big a piglet will be is to look at the parents - IF they are age 4 or older. Pigs can have babies when they are as young as 8 weeks for boys and 30 weeks for girls. If the parents are under age 2 themselves, they will have a lot of growing to do.

More important is how the piglet looks. Straight legs, all the same length (inbred pigs often have shorter front or back legs) are less prone to arthritis. An energetic piglet with clear, bright eyes is a healthy piglet. Piglets should not have any bones visible or easily felt through the skin.
