Question
I have a pot bellied pig I need to know what to put on her skin. Her skin is very dry and scaly. It sometimes get a yellow to orange look to her. what could this be and what can i do for her. Thank you for your time.

Answer
A yellow to orange tint could be dirt or a symptom of mange. If the color doesn't wash off after a sponge bath or two, it's probably mange. Your vet can treat this with injections or oral medicine, two or three doses given two weeks apart.

Pigs do have dry skin. Pig skin is very close to human skin and pigs don't lick themselves, so any lotion that's safe for humans is fine for pigs. Many people prefer Avon Skin So Soft, they insist it repels insects but Avon disagrees. Corn Huskers and Udder Lotion are two widely available inexpensive lotions that work nicely on pigs. Store brands of lotion may work well too, just avoid scented lotions, because scents can sometimes really bother pigs.
