Question
QUESTION: Hi again. Couldn't work out how to add another thing on that one...
I live in Brisbane Australia. I couldn't find any vets on that  site you sent me. The vet I went to was the only one in my area that I could find that had any rat experience at all. I'm starting to really worry... I don't know what to do...

ANSWER: Dont worry I will really try hard to help find someone for you. I wish I had international calling so I can call too. I do that for some people and find them that way as well.

Brisbane Australia...I have no idea where that is but that is what the internet is for!!!!

Whats going on with the rattie now lately?

QUESTION: Dusk has poryphin around her nose again. Other than that there's not been any change.
I was wondering if using wood shavings as bedding could have anything to do with it? It's designed for pet use and the packet says that it's been dust-screened. I know you can't use pine, or sawdust. Thank you so much for all your help.

ANSWER: Cedar isnt good either.

Lets say this...porphyrin sometimes can be seen in a rat that is well. I dont want to say that NOTHING is wrong of course but two out of my 5 rats have a stained nose like they just drank red koolaid and they are not sick.  I usually hate to say this because every rat is different and one time someone wrote me and said her rat kept sneezing and was new to her home and shy and this and that and I told her that often it is not unheard of for new rats to sneeze alot, getting use to their new surroundings and also if they were kept on pine or cedar they can sneeze for weeks just to clear themeselves up from inhaling that junk all the time. Her rat was fine and a few days later she wrote and said she took the rat to the vet and it had pneumonia. I FELT TERRIBLE!!!!  So, I am leary now of being so sure of things on here without seeing the rat in person and listening to her lungs etc...

Sometimes though, rats can be allergic to the bedding but that would trigger sneezing more than anything.

I found some vet in your area and once I get home today I will give you the info in case you want to take her in just to be safe.
