Cosmo lost a tooth!

Dear Ms. Todd,

My pet rat, Cosmo, lost his front left tooth. I'm worried, since rats depend on their teeth, that it might not grow back. Please reply! I really don't want anything bad to happen to my lovely rat! (If it helps any, Cosmo's almost a year old. Maybe 11 months. He's never had any trouble with his teeth at all.)

Did it break off or come off root and all? The entire tooth is like a half circle.

If it broke, it will grow back.

What do the bottom teeth look like? Are there any sores in his mouth?

You can offer him baby foods for now and soft foods such as scrambled eggs, peas and carrots (canned or frozen and thawed) and you can soften his lab block with warm water and let the block sit for a bit.  He shouldnt be eating seed mixes anyhow since they are full of fats and proteins that are not good for rats and high protein contributes to kidney disease later in life.

Let me know about any sores in the mouth etc...
