Tia & Pia out Hairless Rats

Question
Hi, we recently bought 2 hairless female rats, I have never been around any type of small rodent and have done as much digging as I can to find this out on my own. You could have knocked me over with a stick if someone told me that I would have not just 1 but 2 hairless baby's, who are better pet's than a dog or cat! (my opinion) The girls are both 6 1/2 weeks old and are from the same litter, however we bought Tia solo and found out afterward it is best to get a 2nd, so a few day's later we got Pia. First few days they were just kinda quiet, did everything together eating, sleeping, grooming even when out on the bed with us. The last few day's they have done a total 360 to our delight! They are running around playing with us, taking food from our hand and eating it without running off. Then yesterday, I noticed a scratch on Tia's leg so I kept a close eye on them but didn't do it again. When they are eating Pia was going back and forth and moving the
food to 1 bowl, every time Tia had a piece of food, Pia would take it from her. Also Tia is sneezing several times each min, and bouncing all over the cage, how can you tell if they are fighting or is that normal? I have not found anything that helps me find out why she is a sneezing like that, any thought's?
Thank you ~MJ~

Answer
CongRATS on the new rats.  I have a dog and several cats and have had pet rats for years and would NEVER EVER NOT have rats as pets.  I prefer them over most people.  LOL

As for hairless rats....since of course they do not have fur including eyelashes to protect their eyes from debris, you may notice more scratches on them than you would with their furred cousins.  Rats do all sorts of odd things with their food, which is why its important to always let them self feed as long as of course, the food you leave out isnt going to spoil. Be sure to read up about rat care on my site (if you havent found it, that is) sandyscrittercity.com.    As for playing...baby rats LOVE to play. They chase each other, wrestle, even nip each other as if they were tagging each other to come and join in and play.  Rarely do they fight at this age.  When they do fight, though, you will know it.  They usually stand up on their hind legs and may push each other while hissing. Sometimes they just brush up against each other and may squeal or growl or hiss etc...
