Question
I have two gerbils right now and they are simply great, me and my boyfriend just love them. We went to Petco yesterday to buy them some treats and a new bottle and they told us that they have a litter of gerbils that will be ready to go in two weeks, and for free. I would really like to get another pair, so my question is, can it work in one cage? I cant tell the sex on the ones I have now, but they are about 3 months old, and overall very friendly with us as well as each other.

Answer
Hi there, this will not work, especially if you have any males. The older 2 may kill the younger two, gerbils are difficult to introduce to others and may kill eachother if they are not introduced gradually, even then they may not get along. If the gerbils are coming from petco, they should be kept in quarintine in your house for at least 2 weeks anyway, why are they giving away free gerbils anyway? It would be irresponsible to put new gerbils in with your older ones if you dont know the sex. There are enough unwanted animals in the world and if one of the gerbils gives birth, the others may kill the babies. Hope this helps
