Question
i have a double story cage and have put a divider between the two where the one female is at the top and the other at the bottom.i went to hold my chinchilla today and it is missing a finger i immediatly removed the female from the cage and she is now in a cage away from the other chinchillas.i have been to the vet and have been given antibiotic will she still be able to eat with her sore hand

Answer
Dear Michael,
thank you for your question.
She should be able to adapt quickly, usually a missing finger or even a missing paw is not a big hindrance for animals. Check her weight, though, to make sure that she does eat. If she has problems, you can offer her ground-up hay and/or pellets mixed with lukewarm water that she can eat from a bowl without using her hand.
I hope I was of some help to you
Jennifer
