Question
Hello

How old should a guinea-pigs be before they are bred?

How big should a cage be for one? How big should a cage be for a pair?

Can a male be kept with two or three females?

Does breeding shorten there lifes?

How long do they live?

Thanks

Answer
1. Guinea pigs must be at least 4 1/2 months old before being bred.
2. You should buy a rabbit hutch with a run.  The hutch may need to be bigger if keeping more then 2 guinea pigs.
3.  Males can live with other males and several females.  Always remember there will always be an alpha male.
4. Breeding can shorten there lives.  It is also very risky.  If a guinea pig is not bred before reaching 7 months of age the female can die along with babies as the pelvic opening will almost of closed.  I recommend not breeding unless you have experience or know an experienced keeper.  Never split up guinea pigs as they are colony animals
4. They can live from anywhere inbetween 5 - 8 yrs.  I have encountered a 10yr olg G.Pig!!!!!!!!!!
