Will my rat be lonely?

Question
I have 2 rats- Ronnie and Reggie. I had to have Ronnie put to sleep last night, he had cancer and pnemonia- only 8 months old, it was awful and i am very sad. I am now concerned about Reggie, he looks so lonely and upset and I not sure getting him a friend is the right thing to do? Do you have any tips on how I can keep him entertained?

Answer
Since rats are social and in need of being with another or a lot of attention it may be lonely. However, in the case of your rat I would give him some time to "grieve" since rat can become attached. Then when you feel it is a good time get another. But remember to introduce them slowly and in a neutral location. Also remember that not all animals, just like humans, get along so if you see it not working out after sufficient time you may need to get another more suitable.
