Question
Hey! My mom and i were sitting outside yesterday and a mother field mouse jumped out of the pillow with a baby. They mother and the baby just ran off the deck so fast, but they left behind 2 little baby field mice with closed eyes and furr. They were laying on the floor squeling so i quickly got a shoebox with cloth and got them in without touching them (cuz' i heard if it has your scent momy doesn't take it back) and we left them outside right where they were in the box for hours. The mom never came back so i tried feeding them milk out of a eye dropper. It's been working great I feed them every hour, but i want to ask u and make sure they will not die because my dady says i can keep them as pets. Do you have any sugestions, by the way i am 12! Thanks sooo much if you can help, with food suggestions. Oh and also i've tried to get them to go to the bathroom with taking a q-tip and warm water, but its not working and i am worried...please email back!!

Answer
Dear Shaye,
thank you for your question.
This website has good tips on how to raise orphaned mice:

You won't be able to keep the mice as pets because wild mice need to live outside. Even in a huge cage, they will still feel confined and there's a good chance that they will stay skittish and extremely jumpy all their life even if they were handraised. I recommend letting them go once they are old enough to eat solid foods, when they are four weeks or so old (from the day you found them). By then they are mature and can fend for themselves. Leave them alone as much as possible, so that they are not overly used to humans and teach them to search for their food by hiding it in the bedding of their cage.

If you really want mice as pets, there are many fancy mice that are looking for good homes. If you cannot find rescues, look for a good breeder, but I don't recommend buying from a pet shop because the mice there are often sick are very often pregnant.
I hope I was of some help to you
