Right Eye, slightly swollen turning red

Question
QUESTION: Hello!
So I took my two little female mice out for their habitat cleaning yesterday and noticed that my older mouse, Winnie, who is just over a year old, her right eye is turning a dark red and seems to be a little puffy... It doesn't seem to bother her, she is still eating, drinking and running around like crazy, but it just looks really odd. When I pick her up and look at in the light, it looks almost wrinkly in parts, but here isn't any blood or crusty's on her eye.. Could it be a scratch?

ANSWER: Hi Wendy,

That's a little hard for me to picture - are you referring to the skin around her eye or the actual eye itself?  Does she normally have pink eyes?  If it's possible to get a photo please do and write me a followup question so we can try and figure it out a bit better.

In the meantime, assuming you really do mean the eye itself, it could absolutely be a scratch like you mentioned (that may need the attention of a vet and possibly some ointment or drops).  Because eye injuries can become serious, I'd really recommend taking her into a vet if possible.  When you say it looks puffy, do you mean the eyelid or is the eye bulging?

Definitely let me know if you can get a picture, or even if you have more details or questions about it.  I'd love to help out more!

QUESTION: Hey Tam,
Sorry, Yes! the eye ball itself! No crusty's that i can see around it....I called the vet, and got an appointment this friday. She also instructed me to put some natural tears drops until then. I did that the last two nights and the swelling went down, but now when I looked at her eye, it has turned a dark blue grey, almost black, but the very middle is still red and a little puffy. I did speak to the vet this morning early and she said to just bring her in friday because she is probably in pain and needs some medicine .... But Winnie is still acting normal, eating, drinking, sleeping, and running on her wheels....I took a close up of her eye just right this now, and it seems a bit better, less swelling again, but still got that blue-ish  look to it...please have a look....I have a few more photos too, but this one is the best shot of it.....

Answer
Hey there,

I can kind of see what you mean, and the natural tears are an excellent idea.  They'll keep the eye lubricated and moist in case swelling is due at all to dryness.  What did the vet say when you took her in?  It actually looks healthy except for a little swelling, which is great.

Definitely let me know what the vet said, as I'm pretty curious now!
