Question
What are some easy ways to make mouse toys.

Answer
Dear Daniel,
thank you for your question.

Mice enjoy climbing and hiding places they can also chew. Toilet paper rolls are great mouse toys, egg containers are another favourite (especially with some treats hidden inside). Any cardboard boxes will eventually be chewed ans used as a hiding place.

Thick ropes (cotton/hemp) are good climbing toys. You can buy ropes meant for parrots or you can take a look at what the hardware store has to offer. If you have access to trees that don't get sprayed with pesticides, you can offer branches and twigs. Hazel, beech, birch, apple (including crabapple), pear, cherry, plum, poplar, willow, currant, blueberry and maple are safe for mice.

You can make toilet paper houses by covering a balloon or a bowl with several layers moist toilet paper/tissue paper (unscented). Allow to dry overnight, then remove the bowl/pop and remove the balloon and you have a mouse igloo.

They can also have clay pots (glazed is best because then the pots are pee-safe), old mugs are good as well.

I hope I was of some help to you
Jennifer
