Question
why is the fur falling off of my baby mouse's face?

Answer
KATHI PLEASE READ EXTRA NOTE AT BOTTOM FROM NATASHA

Dear Kathi,

The mouse might be allergic to something.  The most likely cause is the litter.  Some mice are allergic to cedar or pine litter.  They can also be allergic to food- are you using an approved mix?-- or to the bedding.  Another common source of allergy is air freshener or furniture polish that you use nearby.

Try to change its environment as much as you can to see if gets better soon. if you can't improve it within 36 hours or so, the mouse ought to be brought to the vet.  I would not treat a mouse so young for mites on the face.

Dear Kathi,

I hope you don't mind me publishing your comment to me here, but I want to answer it.

"thanks for the quick answer, we thought it might be a food allergy, but hadn't thought of bedding. we are using a towel, but have cleaned it. anyway, we willtry a soy baby milk"

Kathi--

I was unaware that your baby mouse was being fed by hand.  I assumed it was just one of a litter being nursed by a mom.

It is totally normal for a baby mouse being nursed by hand to lose some fur.  You have nothing to worry about at all.  Pardon the misunderstanding!
