Baby Mouse - How to get him to eat

21 15:32:29

Question
We found a baby mouse who is brown and his(her?) eyes are still closed. He dropped from the ceiling of a bar we were in and I didn't want him to get killed, nor was there any way to find the nest.

I took him home and got some puppy's milk from the only open pet store. I tried to give him some and he didn't seem interested, but he's quite wiggly and did nip at my gf as she was trying to hold him.

I put him in a container with half on/off a heating pad set to low with lots of comfy old tshirts in there.

Suggestions on how to get him to eat?

Answer
Dear Bo,

The best way to feed him is with an eyedropper.  You may have to hold him by the scruff of his neck-- lightly pinch the skin right at the back of his neck.  If you are gentle this will not hurt him; it's how his mother used to carry him.  Then you give him one drop at a time until he refuses.  He should be pretty hungry by now, so hopefully he'll figure it out pretty quickly.

The best formula to give baby mice is kitten milk, KMR.

Thanks for rescuing him!
