Wild mouse breeding season?

21 15:33:16

Question
I have 3 or mayabe more wild mice living in my greenhouse, I've left them there for the winter - we live in the UK - but don't want them there much longer as they are making such a mess.  I don't however want to evict them if they have babies, do you know when the breeding season is, if there is one?

Thanks

Answer
Dear Judith,

I'm afraid mouse breeding season is 52 weeks of the year!  The only way to make sure they don't have babies is to find the nest-- or, if you catch them humanely (alive), to manage to get a look at the mouse's underside to see if her teats are showing.  If she has visible teats, she is a nursing mother.  If he has what looks like a large rear end, it's a male.  There are many ways to catch a mouse humanely.

Good luck and thank you for caring.
