small wild mouse not afraid

Question
I just found a very small wild mouse in my backyard.  I didn't touch just in case it had a disease.  It seemed totally unafraid but not nasty.  Any idea why that would be the case?

Answer
Hi,

The mouse might be too young to leave its mother, or it might be sick (mouse zoonotic diseases don't make mice sick, so a sick mouse isn't infectious to humans).  Either of these conditions would override its natural fear reaction.

Mouse-to-human diseases are very rare. However, they do exist.

Hopefully the mouse will regain its bearings and take care of itself.
