Why is it that my white mouse (sugar) is the only mouse out of the four that I own that will build a nest none of the others will only her?

Answer
Dear Richard,

Because the other three are lazy : )). Some mice are naturally more of home makers than others. Mice have very individual personalities, just like people.

UNLESS the reason Sugar is working harder (and the others are being normal) is that she is pregnant. Pet stores are notably irresponsible about recognizing and separating the sexes in a timely fashion. Sometimes a male comes home who is sold as a female; which is why I gave you the link to check. And quite often a mouse comes home already pregnant.

Watch Sugar very carefully to see if she grows any bigger. If she does... you will need a cage with solid walls, and you will want to separate the mice into pairs. Four females in a nest with babies is probably too many. Two is good because she will be happy to have a nanny to help her.

I am assuming the container they are in has much higher walls than the photo?

There are a lot of answers here about pregnancy and raising babies, which you should look up if this happens.

Your mice are simply adorable!  Peanut is a long haired silky, which is a special kind of mouse. I hope Smoke was old enough to leave her mom-- she is awfully small. Make sure she is eating and drinking. Of all the mice whose humans write to me, Oreo is by far the most common name, and Peanut is common too. I had a mouse named Sugar.. actually she was a simply amazing mouse with an incredible life story. I don't think I had a Peanut, but I did have a mouse named Peanut-head because when she was a little thing she got her head stuck in a peanut shell.

Give them all a lot of love and kisses!

Squeaks n giggles,
