QuestionI have a "pet" wild mouse that we have had for almost 4 years. She has outlived about 10 domestic "cage" mates over this time. In the last week I noticed her body has swollen to the size of a small tennis ball. She can't even fit in the "tubes" in her cage. She is still eating, but I would like to try to help her if further if you have any idea what is afflicting her and how to treat. I know you are not a vet, but I thought perhaps you had come across something like this in your 35 years. I checked several medical websites (animalhospitals-usa.com) and none of the diseases listed describe her situation.
Thank you for your help.
AnswerDear Vicki,
I am so sorry to hear about your afflicted mouse. If she puffed up suddenly, it definitely isn't a good sign. While it may be something untreatable, like an abdominal tumor, it may be something that a vet could fix, like internal bloating or infection. Please take her to the vet if you can.
Best of luck and health to your little mouse.
