Mouse having fits

Question
Hi. last year, i bought two gorgeous white satin mice both males marcus and jasper. the have good temperaments and get along well they have always been fine and very tame, jumping on my hand when i put it in the cage. Recently i bought two female mice also with good temperaments. about three weeks ago i put the femals in with Jasper to breed, i left them together for a week and they got on fine, and now both appear to be pregnant.
After a week, i put Jasper back with his brother and things were as normal, but in the past week or so, marcus has been fine but jasper has been very jumpy, he runs away when i come near and looks terrified. twice i have seen him having violent fits where he shakes for a few seconds then when i pick him up after this he sits in my hand not moving and frozen, then goes back to being very jumpy afer a few minutes. his brother seems fine. id also like to add they have boh been on antibiotics and have recovered from a respiritory infection recently. i really dont know what is wrong and its worrying me a lot. thankyou.

Answer
Dear Emily,

A vet could give you the possibilities more than I can, but my guess is Jasper either has a pituitary tumor (brain) or something like epilepsy. Although it is doubtful that it will improve, he may stay at this stage for a while and still be a happy mouse. Many people with epilepsy have normal lives.

Definitely don't breed Jasper again. The problem may be hereditary.

I hope Jasper is OK. Best of wishes to him.

squeaks,

Natasha
