Putting boy mice with Dad

Question
I have two mice, one male and one female. They mated and I think see is pregnant. I am talking all the steps I'm supposed to. I will be taking the male out in a couple days. Once the babies are born and they get to the age where I have to separate them, can I put all the males in with the dad? Or do I have to keep them all separate? At the pet store they are all in the same cage?

Answer
Dear Amanda,

Boys of the same litter will get along for a while.  They MIGHT even get along forever-- but it's more likely they'll eventually start to fight.  The father will be a different issue.  Although he will probably be good to the boys when they are little, chances are when they grow up he will become more aggressive.  Still there is no harm in housing them all together until there are problems.  Chasing and squeaking is always fine unless either there is blood, or one mouse is unable to access wheel, food, or nest, or is very depressed.

If they all eventually squabble, though, they will each need separate cages... I suggest trying to find homes for all the boys now.

Best of luck!

squeaks n giggles,
