Question
I caught a baby moust last winter with the intent to let him go in the spring but spring was not that nice and i felt bad setting him loose,so i kept him. Now Iam wondering if I can let him go because he has been kept in a cage and taken care of for so long, will instinct kick in? Can he survivie if i let him go? Should i let him go?    Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Linda,

As I understand it, instincts are in the genetics, and take generations to really fade.  He may have gotten pretty used to you in this time, and easy access to food and water, but I bet he's still terrific at surviving on his own.  Deciding whether or not to let him go is completely up to you (he should be just fine either way), but if you do release him, try to do so in a covered area so that no predators can grab him up before he gets to safety.

Best of luck on your decision!
