Mouse killer

Question
Hello there,

I wonder if you could please help? My cousin was very distressed to see that her female mouse had killed her room mate mouse. After a break of a few months she got a new room-mate mouse (to prevent Fina from being lonely) and now a few weeks later, she has killed her second room-mate too. In fact, she was found eating her!

What might be causing this? Should she live as a solitary mouse from now on? Will she be OK that way?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Heidi

Answer
Hi Heidi,

Although most female mice are very social, some do prefer to live alone.  It's really not typical for a female to kill other females, but unfortunately sometimes a fight gets very out of hand very quickly.  It sounds to me like she definitely would prefer living alone, with your cousin as her buddy instead of another mouse.  Sometimes these things are genetic, and sometimes it's just how they would rather be.  Either way, though, she should be plenty happy by herself!

I am sorry it was so violent, but at least it won't happen again.  If there is anything else I can help with, please let me know.
