Does she trust me?

Question
Hi,

I have a mouse called Bella and I've had her for about 5 months now. After a couple of weeks I relised she was blind. The first 2 months every time I put my hand in the cage she would jump straight on but now the only way I can get her on is if I trick her with some treats. I don't get what I'm doing wrong.

Is their anyway I can make her trust me again? PLEASE HELP ME

Answer
You aren't doing anything wrong, she probably wasn't handled when she was a baby and therefore hasn't got used to humans.

Mice have very poor eyesight so its not much of a problem if they go blind. She would hear and smell you before she could see you anyway. Approaching her slowly without any sudden movements will help. Tempting her with a treat is a great idea, she should learn to trust you in time. Handling her frequently will help her to recognize your 'smell'.

Mice are social creatures and really need the company of other mice. Try to find her a female buddy around the same age and size.

There is a possibility she may never learn to be handled but it is not your fault. I'm sure with a lot of patience she will settle down.

Please feel free to ask any more questions. Good luck
