Entertaining Hyper Mice

Question
I own 2 super hyper, young albino mice and I just don't know how to keep them ocupied!  I have a bunch of toys in their cage and I put them in their excersize balls almost every day.  Any suggestions?
Another weird thing is that they are the exact same size I bought them 4-5 months ago. Even though they always eat or drink, they don't grow!

Answer
Dear Ellie,

How much time and money do you want to invest in them?  I'll tell you what they want. They want one of those huge multiple-bird cages, converted into a four-story mouse house. I had a crazy little mouse who was never happy to stay in the cage until I did that for her. Make sure it has very close bars. They should be about 1/4 inch apart or closer.  You can make extra levels with 1/4" steel mesh. Make them partial levels so you can still hang things from the top. You use strong plastic ties to attach the levels. And at least two wheels. And rope/wood bird toys hanging from the top. Ladders to climb. Cloth to tunnel in. Huts to go in. Things to chew.  Also hide food or treats in boxes for them to chew through, making a few small holes so they can smell the food.  Lots of toys, changing them weekly.

For outside the cage you can convert a table or counter into a mouse playground. Boxes, toilet paper rolls, papers, things to climb on and in, places to hide. Treats here and there.

As for the size, I don't know how big they are, so I can't judge. There are size differences between different varieties of mice. On the other hand, some  mice have congenital defects that stunt their growth. I wouldn't expect that in two mice, even if they are sisters, unless they are very inbred, which can happen in pet stores and quantity breeders.

Have fun with your cuties!
