My babynon-tan
hello miss natasha! I was wondering to breed a mouse and sell them for my aunty's pet shop. So i bought 2 mouse the female was an albino and the male one has black spot i left them for 1 week but still the female wasn't pregnant so i buy two female mice named lizzy and non-tan lizzy was pure black and has a white diamond looking on her head and the other has brown spots, i leave them again for one week and still no sign of pregnancy. so i search around youtube and google. Everytime i look on it they say don't mate mouse with different breeds so does that mean a mouse that has different color doesn't mate each other?

Answer
Hi Divine,

Different species does not mean different colors. It means that a pet mouse or wild house mouse can't mate with a field mouse. Mice of all colors can breed together.

It is possible that you have a sterile male. But it is also possible that he is a little shy, and if you have him in the tank with 3 does (female mice) you might suddenly have three litters of mice, which would mean an overcrowded nest and far too many mice.

Do you understand the work that it takes to breed mice for a pet store? Pet mice aren't born tame.  You have to tame each mouse by holding it at least every day (twice a day is better) after it is 7 days old. When they are about 14-16 days old, they are crazy, because their eyes have opened and they are scared. It is hard to handle them. Breeding should be left to professionals.

If you definitely want to breed, choose one female to live with the male, and give them a month. If nothing happens, you may have a sterile male. You can keep them together. After two months you should be sure enough that you can keep all four together. If you still want to breed, however, you would need a new male. The two males will not get along. If they are in the same cage one may kill the other. You would again only pair that male with one female. Once she is pregnant, you would take her away from the male and put her back into the cage with the others. They will all help raise the babies.

Again, think carefully before you do this. Taming the babies is difficult and time consuming, and a litter can have up to 16 babies.

Enjoy all of your mice!
