Question
Hello again and thanks for the reply

I was wondering if you could give me some tips on taming them, I have little experance with guinea pigs but wish to save some of these beatuiful animals from being feed live to snakes, I do know the basics such as cage size and feeding but havnt found much on taming, Also if they have lice or are just really dirty I have read how to bathe them, my question is how long after I bring them home can I bathe them?, because if they have lice or are really dirty I wouldnt want to put them into there clean home and have to dienfect it within a few days because I didnt bathe them right away.

I will aprecate any help you can give, thanks again.

Answer
The best thing to do if you suspect they might have lice is to take them to the vet first thing to be treated. Guinea pigs rarely get very dirty, unless they are longhaired. If you think they are discustingly filthy give them a bath, but if I were you I'd no.

The key to taming is food! Guinea pigs are amazingly greedy and their love of edibles often wins over their fear/caution of people. Start by just spending time close to the cage without putting your hands in it. Just sit there and read, or do something else calm. That way they'll get accostumed to your presence at the same time as they have a little time to get settled into their new home. After a few days you can start feeding them goodies in your hands that you put in the cage. Let the pigs come up to you when they are ready. Sit there and talk to them and feed them. Keep doing that and soon they'll associate you with food and will come up expecting a treat when you come near!
Move along at your pigs pace- some quickly get tame and sit contentedly in your lap after just a couple of days, others are more shy and it can take months for them to get that tame.
