Question
Hello

My guinea pig was bought pregnant (from a pet store), her babys have been kicking for quite some time (about two/three weeks) but they still haven't arived, my question is when should they be due if they've been kicking for that long? Also when she lays doen she is five inches wide does this mean that there is more then two pups like I thought?

Also if I let my guinea pigs out in a large exercise pen two/three times daily for about a hour each time can there cages be smaller?

Is hartz a ok brand to feed them? Also do they really need to have unlimited timothy hay? wouldnt a handful do?

They should be due any day. She could have anywhere from 2-5 pups.

<<Also if I let my guinea pigs out in a large exercise pen two/three times daily for about a hour each time can there cages be smaller>>

In my opinion and the opinion of many others, NO. One cavy needs at least 7.5 sq.ft. of living space, period.
A 2x3 C&C cage is recommended for one cavy. This cage is only 28"x 42".

<<Is hartz a ok brand to feed them?>>

Hartz is a horrible brand and has been known to cause health problems and even death in animals.

<<Also do they really need to have unlimited timothy hay?>>

YES! and your pregnant cavy should also have unlimited Alfalfa hay too for the calcium for the growing babies. The pups should get Alfalfa hay for up to 6 months after they are born because they need it for growth.

<<wouldnt a handful do?  >>

NO! Cavies are grazing animals and need hay for digestion and for grinding down their front and back teeth. Cavies needs something to nibble on throughout the day so they need an unlimited supply of hay 24/7.

Cavies also need 1 cup of fresh vegetables daily, since your cavy is pregnant, she should get 2 cups daily.

Please do some more research about proper care of cavies.
