QuestionI have a male guinea pig, about one year old. I want to get him a friend, but have had several people tell me that if I get a young male, my older male will attack it. I know that ideally, I should have raised two together, but that didn't happen... Are there ways to introduce two males to each other so that will get along? Or should I just get my male neutered and get a female?
AnswerHello Grace,
I know that it is possible to keep an older male and a younger male together. There is more of a challenge when there is a female involved. It also depends on the temperament of the males. I use the stagger method when introducing my pigs together. This is when I put them together for short periods of time and slowly increase the amount of time they are together until finally they are living together. It is also best to introduce them both on new territory.
