QuestionHi there. I just bred my 7 month old guinea. I did not learn until it was too late that a G.P. female should be bred for the first time before 7 months,to reduce health risks. I am now very worried that I made a terrible mistake with breeding her. She is also pretty small, just under 1 pound, and I would like to know if smaller G.P's fare as well as most other, larger guineas while giving birth. Is 7 months too old to breed a Guinea for the first time? Please answer soon! I am SO WORRIED!!!!!
AnswerHi
7 months is just on the upper limit to breed a first time female.
Smaller pigs will naturally struggle more but there's no automatic reason to suggest there will be problems. All I can say is that you should have a vet on standby in case the pelvic bones have fused when it comes time for her to give birth.
