Guinea Pig Black Nipple

Question
Hi,

My male guinea pigs left nipple has recently turned a blue/black color and has a small amount of clear/yellow discharge.  When you touch it he doesn't seem to be in any pain, and acts normally.

Is this a normal complication?

Thanks!

Answer
Am I correct that the pig is white or light colored on the belly?  If it were a dark colored skin we would expect to see the nipple the color of the skin. If it's always been light colored and suddenly turned this blue/black color there is a problem.  Any discharge is abnormal. Even without swelling or indication of pain the discharge is concerning and could indicate ther may be an infection of some sort.

I would recommend you see a vet asap. Although we always think of mammary tumors in females the fact is males can get them too.  I know you don't see any swelling but a malignancy cannot be ruled out except by your vet.  Please don't wait too long.  Time is of the essence with things like this.

Please let me know what you find out.
