I have a pregnant teddy bear hamster and i'm not quite sure what to do. I know from reading about sybiarn hamsters that you should seperate them after mating. But with the dwarf hamster you shouldn't. I'm not so sure about my teddy bear hamsters. should i seperate them or should i leave the male in with the female. And also im not sure what to feed her.I would like if you could answer as soon as possible...Thanks

hey,
Righty, If your hamster is a teddy bear hamster (serian) your hammies shouldn't be living together, becuase they are territorial. whereas dwarfs, can live together. look on the net if you need to see what yours is, but i'm assuming your long haired(what we call them here) hammy is serian.:)
ok so first thing, take the male away, or the female will attack him.
Ok its important that she has a range of foods, especially protein. which is found in nuts, boiled agg, and cheese (in small amounts becuase of the fat content). this is important becuase if she does not have enough she may eat the babies.
you can carry on giving her her normal foods, and vegetables/fruits are good too(carrots are great, celery etc, and fruits like apples, grapes, etc (no citrus))also make sure shes got plenty of water.
She'll be pregnant for 16 days and once shes had the babies she'll need more food to keep her strength up. at 5 days they will eat solids too, give small peices of food, i always give mine porridge oats. by Ten days they're be eating like theres no tomorrow, so give plenty of food for all of them! you really can't give them enough!!
thats all you need to know,
any more questions, i'll be happy to help :D

I didnt know that teddy bear hamsters were serian. I was wondering if i could also feed her boiled eggs.

Answer
Yes, i've been searching far and wide on the internet, and teddy bear hamsters are just another name for a serian hamsters, some sites say you only have long haired teddies, and some say you can have short haired ones, but The teddy bear hamster is just another name for the serian hamster.:) which means she should be treated like a serian, she should have her own cage and not live with the male.
yes boiled egg is fine, i think there was a spelling mistake in my last answer, but that is what i ment. sorry about that. :-D
