New Environment For Hamster

Question
I just got a new hamster about 6 hours ago.  Well the ride home all she did was make the little holes in the box much bigger, so big i had to cover them so she didnt escape.  Well i got her into her new house which is a very big cage, well still after 6 hours she has not slept she just sits in a corner and stares out of the cage.  Shes ate maybe 4 sunflower seeds and hasnt drank or slept.  I've had hamsters before none acted this way.  When i open the cage (very slowly) she made a really loud squawk noise and ran.  Is this normal when they are in a new place?  When should she be used to it here?  I got her from one of the best petstores in our area.
Thanks

Answer
Jen,
This is completely normal. Some hamsters are just very skittish as babies exspecially if they are very young or have not been sxposed to people for long. Leave her alone for about two days, let her get used her surrondings and then you can begin to put your hand in the cage, let her sniff, and eventually she will trust you enough to eat from you and crawl up onto your hand. Good luck!
