A Few Questions

Question
Dear Kelly,
I have a few questions about Frank's new babies:
1. How long do I need to wait until I can touch/hold the pups?
2. How soon do I need to have water and food avaliable for the pups? What can they eat?
3. How long do I keep them with their mother?
4. How much space will they need?

Answer
Hi Shelby,

I'll just go in order:

1. Wait until the babies are 14 days old before you hold them for short periods of time.

2. The water bottle should be placed low to the ground, where the pups can reach it.  (That should be done now.)  When they are at least 2 weeks old, they may begin to eat the hamster mix.  Instead of putting all the food in a food dish, place plenty of it on the bedding as well (once they are 2 weeks old).

3. The pups will stay with their mother until they are 3 weeks old.

4. As far as space, babies don't need a whole lot of it.  Just make sure they can use the ground floor of your cage.

Have a great day!
