Question
Are you suppose to bathe your hamster/gerbil?
Do they bathe themselves?

Answer
Hi Adrian,

No, hamsters or gerbils shouldn't be bathed, nor should they be submerged in water, ever.  Water strips the essential oils from their skin, leaving them at risk for colds and other illnesses.  If you want, you can brush your hamster or gerbil's coat with a soft toothbrush.  Or, you can buy chinchilla sand (not dust, which can be dangerous) at the pet store, and pour some into a dish.  Let your hamster or gerbil roll around in the sand for about 10 minutes, once a week.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask :)
