i think my russian dwarf hamster is pregnant

i have had my hamster for a couple of weeks now and it has started getting alot fatter but the pet shop said that it is a boy but i looked on the internet and i looked on its belly and it has the private area of  a girl so how can i tell if it is pregnant and if it is a girl please help

Male hamsters will soon develop very large testicles that are hard to miss as they are disproportional to their body size.  If you have a female, the area between her gentials and anus is longer than it would be in the males.  The female gestation period is between 15-20 days so if she is pregnant you'll soon find out.  It is possible that she is just getting fat due to better food and/or less exercise.  If you think she is pregnant though and have any more questions regarding raising the pups, let me know and I'll give you some tips.
