Tumor on Dwarf

Question
My daughter and I noticed a "tag" like mole on her dwarf's back.  It does not seem to bother the hamster when it is touched.  While the mole concerns me, I am more worried about a black crust that I see peeking out of her left ear.  At first we thought a piece  of food or poop got in there, but it does not look like either.  It is just a hard black crust.  The hamster also appears to be losing hair on its legs and belly.  help, my daughter is concerned her hamsteris really sick and it is not even a year old yet.

Answer
Hello Mary,
the mole on his back could be a birth mark and if it's not bothering him, I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it starts growing. The black crust in the ear is what concerns me as well. Have you tried getting it out with a pair of tweezers and trying to clean the ear with some ear cleaning solution? Sometimes if the ears are dirty it could be ear mites and keeping them clean. When it comes to your hamster losing it's fur what type of bedding are you using? Ceder and pine are the worst beddings to use for small animals because they will lose their fur and have other problems such as respiratory and liver problems. If you aren't using that type of bedding then I would personally contact a vet and see if you can take her in to be looked at. Good luck and keep me posted.
