Question
I have 7 pups and the runt looks like it is not getting enuff food. They will be a week old tomorrow. Is there anything that I can do to help this one?

Answer
Hello Rachel,

There isn't too much you can do really, it is normal to have a runt and they do normally grow up to be happy healthy gerbils. I kept the runt of my litter, and although she has never caught up properly in size she is the most dominant gerbil out of all of them!!
You can try offering human baby food made into a paste as they really like this and it is good for them. Cow and Gate Sunshine Bananna (the powder form mixed with water) is best. However, i would not offer this until their eyes are open and only do offer it when you are there to supervise as they can easily fall in the pot!
When they are about 3 weeks old you can put in Canary Seed, bought from any pet shop, as this helps them to wean of the mothers milk, and will also give the runt a fair chance to get food!!

I hope this helps,
Charlie
