my ferret is sick and i dont know whats wrong with it.

my ferret quit walking one day and she cant move her hind legs, shes loosing weight and she shakes alot. we found her outside about 7 months ago and she was fine, and she would pounce all over and then one day... i knew somethin was up cause she was too calm. she'd never been that calm b4. then she quit walking, and when she did she acted drunk? what could be wrong?

Hi Crystal,

My system was down so sorry it has taken this long to respond.  When a ferret get insulinoma they act drunk and need Nutri-cal or Karo Syrup or something very sweet put on their gums to bring them out of the beginnings of a seizure.  When they lose use of their hind legs it is usually from the beginnings of kidney failure.  Is your ferret old?  Give her chicken baby food and Nutri-cal.  Make sure she get a lot of water and watch her.  She should gain weight from both Nutri-cal and baby food.  I had a ferret that lived several months without the use of her back legs.  It's sad but she was happy.
