Ferrett not eating or drinking and has diarerra

I have taken my male ferrett to the vet twice and he has been through two rounds of antibiotics. He is around 6 years old and was losing weight. After the first visit we began feeding him with a syringe but then he began eating on his own so we stopped. We have been feeding him "duk" soup and he was eating that the baby food & some of his regular food too. He has now stopped eating and we are feeding him and giving him water with a syringe again. He has always been our lazy man & we believe he is blind, but lately he seems dazed, loses his footing & running into walls more often. Some days he seems a little better then days like today he seems lethargic. We are going to be taking him to the vet again but I want to make sure we are doing all we can for him. My other two females are fine regarding their food & they are separated from Liko so we can monitor his food & water intake.

Any advice of things I can try would be great.  His gums are kinda pink but white so we are trying to increase his water intake

Dear D'Lanor,

Liko is getting old.  Ferrets generally live five to seven years.  Unfortunately age is something we can't do anything about.  We'd like to turn back the hands of time, but it's just not possible.  It sounds to me that you've been doing all the right things.  And, regular checkups and follow-up visits to your vet are now more important than ever.

Liko's diet sounds good, really good.  But sometimes we need to add something a little different to keep up an aging ferrets interest in eating.  Try some Gerber Junior Ham & Gravy.  Warm it just enough that it feels warm to your touch.  Swirl it around with your finger to make sure there are no hot spots in it.  Serve about 1/2 Tablespoon along side his regular food.

And, please, don't forget the vitamins.  They're going to be very important to Liko right now.  I use FerretVite.  Be sure not to give more than the recommended dosage.

Feed Liko separate from his siblings so you can continue to monitor his food/water intake.  But, it's important that he's able to find comfort in being with them as well.
