Ferret throwing up

Question
I have a 5 year old female ferret nala. She has recently lost her cage mate 6 year old Timon.
I'm concerned because when I got home from work nala seemed fine . Then she vomited three times white foamy
And has not thrown up again yet today it's only been about a half hour. She is very sleepy but otherwise seems ok
Should I be concerned? Is she sick or could it be depression over losing her buddy?

Answer
Dear Kristina,

Ferrets will sometimes become ill following a sudden change in their environment or a stressful situation.  However, it's important to pay serious attention to any signs of vomiting.  Prior to vomiting, the ferret will walk quickly backwards, salivate, and/or paw at his mouth.

Causes may include a change in diet, tainted food, intestinal blockage, or a number of serious ferret diseases.

Because there are so many diseases that cause ferret vomiting (some fatal)I would strongly advise taking your little friend to the vet.  Once a ferret becomes sick, they seem to go down hill pretty quickly.  It's better to be safe than sorry.

I'm glad you asked your question and I sincerely hope you're able to nip this problem in the bud and everything turns out well.

Warm regards,
Janet
